Finally, it's here....the one and only Smokey the Bear Hat, also affectionatly known as the Campaign, Drill Sargent, Park Ranger or Mountie Hat. Made of 100% wool and manufacutured right here in the good ole USA, this hat will keep the sun off your face, the rain from drenching your head, and make you look one of a kind, at the same time. The origins of the hat can be traced back to the 1840's when army troops posted in the american west happily donned themselves with these then civilian hats, which were far more practical than the shakos that they generally had to wear. It was adopted by the army back in the late 1800's for fatigue use, and by the 1930's had evolved to having a stiff brim. It was around this time it was dubbed the 'Montana Peak' design, referring to the pinched crown. By 1942, the campaign hat ceased to be used by the entire army, but became the signature hat of General Joseph Stilwell.
Today this hat and similar ones, are worn by U.S.Army drill sargents, U.S. Marine Corps Drill Instructors, Park & Forest Rangers and the Royal Canadian Mounties. Not to mention, our own gift buyer can be found wearing hers when out in the woods, along with many other colorful characters of Ely. BR10001
