Plum Lake: Visits to the Northwoods By David Nyweide. This book is a skillfully and meticulously observed evocation of that part of the Old Northwest some of us are so lucky to live in. He writes of swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, building secret hideouts, and getting ice cream from a country store in the evening. And unusual for someone so young, he also elicits a sense of history throughout. This portrait of the land and his family is detailed and loving.
