Sanborn Canoe - Painted Hatchet - Dallas Des Mortes
The Hudson Bay axe design has its origins in Northern Spain and France. It was especially popular among French traders as they explored the New World. With this hatchet, we have taken a tried and true design and added Sanborn’s iconic Dalles des Morts design to the handle. Crafted right here in the USA from 5160 grade alloy steel and American Hickory, our Hudson Bay Camp Axe is as rugged as it is fetching.
“Dalles des Morts” means ‘death rapids’ in French. It was the name given to a particularly gruesome stretch of rapids, along the Columbia River, traversed by the voyageurs. Many a harrowing tale lie in its’ churning waters involving, among other things, adventure, heroism, cannibalism, cowardice, death and survival.
